When in Need of a Child Support Lawyer

Welcome to my blog. I’m Lorna Elliot. My husband and I divorced three years ago. We had been married for ten years and had two children together. Our divorce was fine at first, but then he stopped paying child support. What do you do when the father of your children stops paying child support? Or, you find out that your ex-husband who never paid child support now has a full-time job? It would be nice if, as the parents of the same children, you could come together and make adjustments to your original child support agreement. But this doesn’t usually happen and when it doesn’t, finding a lawyer is the way to proceed. This is what I’ve had to do, and I want to share my experience with you.

Do You Have To Be Driving To Get A DUI?

Can you get a DUI when you weren't driving a car? The answer is yes. Keep reading to learn more about other ways you can get a DUI and how to protect yourself.

DUI While Boating

When you're operating a boat, you can get a DUI just like you were driving a car. While going out on the water is fun, operating a boat is still dangerous especially when other boaters and swimmers are around.

In some places, a boat counts as a vehicle for a DUI charge. In others, there is a separate boating under the influence charge that's similar to a DUI on land. If you're over the legal limit or have an open container while boating, you could be subject to arrest. If you want to drink while you're on the water, make sure you have a designated captain who isn't drinking.

DUI on a Bike

Getting a DUI on a bicycle is a little tricky because the laws vary by location. In some places, bikes may not count for a DUI because they aren't a motor vehicle. In other places, it may depend on if you're on the street or on public property. Even if DUI laws don't apply, you could still be found liable for being intoxicated if you injure someone or be charged with other crimes like public intoxication.

If you're charged with DUI on a bike, keep in mind that police officers aren't lawyers and sometimes make mistakes. They may think DUI applies when it doesn't, or they could file the wrong charge after they arrest you. Even if you agree you were drunk while riding your bike, you should have a lawyer review the charges to make sure they're legally valid.

DUI on a Lawnmower

Every once in a while, someone getting a DUI while riding a lawnmower will make the news. Usually, this will be someone who had their license suspended and can't drive a car, so they drove their riding lawnmower down the sidewalk to get to the store. Other variations include tractors, four-wheelers, and golf carts.

DUI laws will often apply in this type of situation because you're operating a motor vehicle. In addition, you may be violating other laws by driving an unregistered motor vehicle on a sidewalk or public road. If you think you've found a good loophole to get around your license suspension, ask your lawyer before you get in more trouble.
